I’m exploring themes around gesture and in this case I would like to look at the indifference that we show to each other in public forums – in other words, we close ourselves off from meeting each other in the streets or on the metro.  To play with this idea, I would like to make a canvas with pairs of eyeballs.  The canvas would be laid flat and the eyeballs would hide little magnets that allow them to turn in random directions.  However, when the pairs of eyes encounter another pair of eyes, they would repel and turn away.  I would like to lay the canvas flat on a table and perhaps paint a two-dimensional scenario of the Paris metro seats around the eyeballs.  So this would be somewhat a funny little display intended to question why we shy away from interaction when at the core of being human is an need to connect.
